Because the boys and girls are in different divisions, the Lake Catholic Track team competed in Districts over 4 days (yes, 4) and spanning 2 counties. While it makes for a lot of track in a short period of time, you didn’t hear the coaches complain. It also didn’t stop athletes (and parents) from one team attending the other’s meet and rooting the other on. Its great to see that kind of support. And those spectating were not disappointed as there were many excellent performances!
At Mayfield High School the boys’ 4x800M team of Matt Kirchner, Alex Hansel, Christian DeMitro, & Landyn Miller had an excellent race and moved onto Regionals. DeMitro earned the right to compete in 2 races as he also finished 2nd in the 800M, narrowly missing out on first place. Matt Kirchner also will be competing twice as he parlayed a strong final lap to a 3rd place finish in the 3200M. One of the most pleasant surprises of the meet was the boys 4x100M team of DJ Griffus, Robert Morgan, Nate Rieple and Kevin Conley who came into finals as a 6 seed and emerged with a 3rd place finish and a birth to Regionals. Here’s a link to the full boys results.
The girls out at Perry High School put on quite a display. Chloe Keating ran PR’s and qualified for regionals in all 3 of her events, 100, 200 & 400. Marshai Cooper is the District Girls Shot Put champion with her PR and excellent 34’5” throw. She will also be competing at Regionals in Discus thanks to her 106’ throw. Marshai and Chloe won’t be alone at Regionals as Elaine Szep is the district runner up in pole vault. Here are the full results for the girls.
Congratulations and good luck to all of the athletes that made it to Regionals. We will be rooting for you! And thank you to the other athletes that competed at Districts but fell just short of moving on. We are proud of your effort!
