Give the Lake Catholic girls track team some butter, because it's on a roll. The Lady Cougars dominated the field at yesterday's Dick Beeler Booster Invitational at Harvey, scoring a whopping 153 points en route to winning the prestigious Painesville showcase. The dynamic duo of Rachael Kotoch and Chloe Keating gave the Cougars 24 points in the 100m and the 200m, and distance runners Erin Ward and Taylor Newhart picked up individual wins in the 800m and the 1600m, respectively. Marissa Fedele (100mH), Silvija Taraska (discus), and the 4x800m relay team of Ward, Taylor Newhart, Hannah Cvelbar, and Kennedy Newhart also chipped in with victories. Runners-up included Abbey Rojeck (1600m, 3200m), Fedele (300mH), Lilija Taraska (shot put), Marshai Cooper (discus), and the 4x200m relay team of Kotoch, Fedele, Keating, and Ally Holy.
Not to be outdone, the boys squad posted an impressive second-place finish, helping the Cougars earn the combined team title. Distance stalwart Jacob Keating won the 800m and the 3200m, while Connor Duricky won the 110mH. Runners-up included Darrius Alston (200m), Marty Caja (long jump), and the 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m, and 4x800m relay teams. Full results can be found here, and News-Herald writer John Kampf's interview with Keating can be found here.
The Cougars will look to continue their hot streak at next week's North Coast League championship meet, hosted by Padua on Tuesday (prelims) and Thursday (finals).
