Pop quiz: What's the only thing sweeter than winning a North Coast League championship?

Answer: Winning a North Coast League championship for the third consecutive year.

The Lake boys did exactly that Thursday night, scoring 137.33 points en route to yet another NCL title. Erik "COTY" Schroeder was recognized as the conference's coach of the year, and News-Herald track and field connoisseur Chris Lillstrung gave the Cougars a lot of well-deserved love in his meet recap.

Individual champions included Connor Duricky (110mH, 300mH); Jacob Keating (1600m); Domenic Marinucci (shot put); the 4x200m relay team of Kevin Conley, Ricky Osborne, Darrius Alston, and Duricky; and the 4x400m relay team of Josh Lazanich, Mike Malchesky, Osborne, and Duricky. Runners-up included Keating (3200m); Marinucci (discus); Hunter Williams (shot put); and the 4x800m relay team of Colin Waddle, Keating, Matt Kirchner, and Lazanich.

The Lake girls also enjoyed an impressive showing at NCLs, placing third overall with 99 points. Marissa Fedele (300mH) and the 4x200m relay team of Rachael Kotoch, Fedele, Chloe Keating, and Ally Holy earned runner-up honors, and the 4x100m relay team of Kotoch, Holy, Keating, and Silvija Taraska set a new school record with a time of 50.94.
