Lake Catholic XC Runners Advance to Regionals

    Original

The conditions were cold, windy and water logged at Willougby South this Saturday afternoon, but the Lake Catholic Cougar Cross Country team didn't care as they were on a mission: to send more athletes to Regionals than they did the prior season.  How did they fare?  Mission Accomplished as 9 runners advanced!!!

The boys team finish 3rd overall and advanced all 7 varsity runners to Regionals. It was great to have Jacob back and he battled over half of the race with Mentor's Matt Bull and Twinsburg's Ryan Adkins.  He officially finished in 3rd place but the photos show a very close finish. Colin Waddle finished 14th and Matt Kirchner in 17th place, each of whom would have qualified as Individuals for the Regional Meet had the entire team not made it. Rounding out the boys team going to Regionals are Alex Hansel, Keller Dittoe, Josh Lazanich and Brian Grai.

Congratulations to the Girls team and their outstanding effort. They were projected to finish 11th and finished 8th in a very competitive field! Erin and Abbey both advanced to Regionals with a 21st and a 24th finish. They ran strong and were exciting to watch.  The team had 3 PR's yesterday as Erin (20:33), Anna (22:52), Chloe (23:07) ran their best race of the year.

We are looking forward the regional meet at Boardman where the Lake Catholic athletes will be fighting even stiffer competition for a qualifying state bid.  Good luck, runners!

Here are the pictures from the meet.
